Performs, accesses, analyzes, and scores sleep polysomnographic studies. The Polysomnographic Technologist, RPSGT must maintain safety of patients during overnight recording, calibrate equipment and perform overnight studies as ordered by referring physicians in accordance with AAST and AASM guidelines. Perform pediatric, adolescent and adult polysomnography. Score sleep recordings. He/She works independently to safely operate sophisticated medical equipment to record sleep/wake physiology. The Polysomnographic technologist administers oxygen and nasal continuous positive airway pressure and employs ventilatory assist devices in accordance with established protocols. The technologist also performs special procedures such as MSLT’s. MWT’s. PAP naps, pediatric polysomnography, and patient education. Record review/scoring of polysomnograms is also essential.
The person in this position works under general supervision, is responsible for various shifts, may be subject to over 40 hours per week and/or callback as required, and may also be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.
High School Diploma or General Education Degree required
Two years Sleep Center experience required
BLS through American Heart Association
Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) OR Registered Sleep Technologist required
Knowledge of all aspects of Sleep Disorders Medicine and application of equipment utilized in a Sleep Disorders Center
