We are looking for driven Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) to join our team of exceptional staff! *RELOCATION ASSISTANCE* *SIGN-ON BONUS* *GENEROUS BENEFITS PACKAGE* POSITION SUMMARY: You will perform routine and complex polysomnographic procedures including MSLT, MWT, correlates and compiles diagnostic data and applies therapeutic modalities as necessary to patient’s condition. Other duties may consist of scoring, scheduling, upkeep of electronic and paper files, database activities, departmental quality improvement and EMU equipment troubleshooting. Performs all duties in a manner promoting a team concept and which reflects the mission statement of Lake Health District. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.) - Reviews patient history to determine chief sleep/wake complaint. Interviews patient to assess current medications sleeping schedules, alcohol and caffeine consumption and specific needs during testing. Document and monitors patient’s conditions continuously and compiles a complete technical summary of these at the end of each procedure.
- Sets up and calibrates monitoring equipment. Measures and applies EEG electrodes using the International 10-20 system. Applies appropriate EOG, EMG, ECG, respiratory effort and airflow devices and oximetry transducers.
- Performs physiological calibrations, monitors the polysomnogram/electroencephalogram, recognizes and records relevant clinical and physiological events and monitors/changes the patient environment to obtain required sleep/wake data. Is able to interface computers to calibrate, operate and generate polysomnograms/electroencephalograms and reports. Recognizes artifact activity and makes appropriate changes to eliminate it from the recording to insure the quality of the data being collected and the safety and well-being of the patient.
- Performs complex polysomnographic, MSLT, MWT, in accordance with Departmental Policies and Procedures. Stages and scores these tests in accordance with current published guidelines. May be responsible for performing routine EEGs according to departmental policies and procedures.
- Identifies and resolves life-threatening situations when and if the need arises. Understands indications, contraindications, and adverse effects of PAP therapy, and oxygen therapy, and applies these modalities in compliance with Sleep Lab Protocols.
- Utilizes communication with physicians, supervisors, and other sleep lab personnel to appropriately insure patient safety, including those with special needs and to promote departmental quality guidelines.
- Properly handles hazardous materials such as collodion and acetone and utilizes proper disinfecting techniques on equipment, transducers and electrodes.
- Identifies artifacts and/or equipment problems as they arise and resolves them in a timely manner to insure the quality of data being collected and the safety and comfort of the patient.
- Oversees and performs difficult and advanced polysomnographic testing and therapeutic interventions.
- Cleans equipment per hospital and department policies. Monitors for equipment malfunction and communicates any issues in a timely manager to Maintenance or Manager as appropriate.
- Obtains the appropriate amount of continuing education units required to maintain licensure each licensing period.
- Functions as respectful, positive member of the patient care team. Maintains professional appearance and demeanor.
- Remains calm and effective in stressful or critical patient care situations.
- Adheres to department policies and procedures.
