About the Role:
Job Summary
The Polysomnographic Technologist works under medical supervision to perform and evaluate polysomnographic recordings. The individual functions independently to safely operate sophisticated medical equipment to record sleep/wake physiology. He/she also serves as a liaison between the patient and day medical support staff.
Minimum Job Qualifications
Licensure or other certifications: RPSGT (Registered Polysomnographic Technologist) or RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist). Current CPR certification.
Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or GED.

Job Specific and Unique Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Perform sleep stage scoring in accordance with guidelines established by Rechtschaffen and Kales
Score apneas, hypopneas and upper airway in accordance with established guidelines
Provide trouble shooting and technical support
Maintain knowledge of sleep via continuing education
Provide constructive feedback for improvement of services
Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
Assure equipment is in proper working order. Notify supervisor or manager of any equipment or facility problems so proper follow-up is performed.
Work well within a team environment and demonstrate a positive and caring attitude towards patients and co-workers.
Assist and support the sleep specialist as needed. Handles physician orders with professionalism and promptly. Clearly communicates with doctors.
Maintain good organization and clean workplace environment.
Be willing to flex schedule with volumes as needed to maintain productivity.
Willing to train/educate staff as directed or needed.
Ensure that all policies and procedures are followed.
Effectively use all equipment to ensure adequate and accurate test recordings for diagnostics.
Perform attended studies, continuously monitoring patient activity, ensuring patient safety and maintaining quality recordings.
Score periodic limb movements in accordance with established guidelines.
Prepare and generate reports necessary for interpretation by the sleep specialist.
Handles difficult patient situations professionally and provide excellent customer service.
Greets patients in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner.
Looks for and suggests ways to continually improve services.
Seeks and participates in educational opportunities to enhance ability to perform individual role and better serve customers.
Must be able to work alone, without direct supervision; exercise good judgment, tact and understanding in dealing with patients, physicians and other employees; recognize life threatening abnormalities, be able to react competently in stressful and critical situations.
Apply appropriate cleaning techniques and equipment sterilization.
Maintains assigned design of testing rooms. Assure appropriate turnaround of room(s) after patient has completed study to ensure room is ready for next patient.
Complete all mandatory educational requirements and employee physicals on time.
Requires the ability to stay awake at all times and alert throughout the entire night while monitoring a patient.
