The Position: The RPSGT provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. We are looking for three experienced, fully registered, and certified full time Sleep Technicians to work at our West Broad Sleep Center location.
Job Responsibilities
Score nighttime sleep studies, including sleep / wake stages and clinical events according to accepted guidelines and clinic protocols, and generate accurate reports by tabulating data.
Educate patients about CPAP therapy and perform mask fittings.
Perform download of CPAP machine data cards
Trouble shoot CPAP mask and machine problems and work with patient to find solution to increase compliance.
Coordinate with DME company regarding patient’s CPAP machine: complete and fax paperwork for initial set ups, write and fax RX for initial set ups and new equipment, assist with patient questions and equipment problems, etc.
Respond to voicemails and EMR messages within timeframe as set by PAR.
Accurately document patient activity, phone calls, etc. in EMR
Coordinate home sleep studies: Instruct patients on the proper use of the home sleep unit, complete all paperwork, upload completed studies for physician review, etc.
Fax sleep study results to referring physicians.
Trouble shoot sleep software and equipment.
Evaluate sleep study related equipment and inventory.
Maintain cleanliness of lab by cleaning and disinfecting equipment
Communicate with night techs regarding patient needs, questions, etc.
Call patients to confirm their night-time sleep study appointments.
Must be willing and able to work at any of PAR’s three locations on a moment’s notice.
Schedule appointments for patients to pick up Auto PAP machine for at-home Auto PAPtitrations. Instruct patients in the proper use of the machine. Fit patients with CPAP masks.
Perform in-lab diagnostic PSGs, split-night studies and titration studies as needed (i.e.: for patients who happen to work the night shift) in accordance with the established protocols as outlined in the PAR Sleep Lab Policy and Procedure manual.
Perform actigraphy testing.
Participate in AASM interscorer reliability program once / month.
Obtain 10 CEUs per year (year is based on anniversary date of employment)
Adhere to Pulmonary Associates’ standards of excellent customer service to patients, caregivers, providers, coworkers, and those outside of Pulmonary Associates
Adhere to HIPAA policies and procedures in order to protect patient privacy and security.
Perform other duties as required by the providers, manager or member of Administration.
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience: One year experience is preferred; will consider equivalent education in lieu of experience
Licenses & Certifications: CPR Required
Until 12/31/2015: RPSGT credential or eligibility to sit for RPSGT exam required• As of 1/1/2016: RPSGT credential required, and Virginia State license required.
Knowledge
Sleep medicine and the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders
Current standards and procedures for performing and scoring sleep studies.
Knowledge of sleep therapies such as CPAP, BiPAP, etc.
Skills
Instructing and coaching patients
Skilled in computer software in a Windows environment
Skill in using Allscripts, Alice 6, Respironics, Somnalab and Resmed software.
Administering oxygen
Skill in operating basic medical equipment such as blood pressure cuff, pulse oximeter, etc.
Abilities
Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent / emergent situations.
Ability to effectively communicate verbally in person and on the phone, and in writing through emails and letters.
Ability to analyze complex situations and apply established policies and procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, caregiver's providers, employees, DME company representative and others outside of PAR.
Ability to trouble shoot, problem solve and use good judgment.
