Externship site expects the extern to learn and demonstrate the following skills during their clinical externship: - Pediatric audiologic evaluations, including otoscopy, tympanometry, acoustic reflexes, OAEs, and behavioral audiometry (VRA, CPA, standard) - Natural sleep and sedated ABR testing - Universal newborn hearing screening and diagnostic follow-up - Amplification services, including hearing aid selection, fitting, verification, troubleshooting, and counseling - Bone conduction hearing devices and cochlear implant candidacy, activations, and follow-up care - Family-centered counseling and patient education - Multidisciplinary collaboration with ENT, Speech-Language Pathology, and other pediatric specialties - Clinical documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) - Application of evidence-based practice in pediatric audiology

Steps for the student/university to follow the application process: - Student submits a complete application, including cover letter, CV, and letters of recommendation, by the posted deadline. - Selected candidates may be invited to participate in a virtual interview. - Final candidates will receive an offer from Driscoll Children's Hospital. - Upon acceptance, the student and university complete required affiliation agreement and documentation. - The student completes the hospital onboarding and pre-employment requirements prior to the externship start date.

The externship site expects the university to provide standard academic oversight, including timely communication regarding affiliation agreements, student evaluations, and any concerns related to student performance. The university is also expected to be available for collaboration or support if issues arise during the externship.
